Welcome to another edition of Love, Peace, and Tacos, a weekly newsletter where I share what I’m feeling, loving, and eating. My podcast, We’re Never Doing This Again will be returning this month with brand new episodes. Stay tuned!
Hello friends,
Happy first week of Libra season! As you know, the name of this newsletter is Love, Peace, and Tacos. The other day I realized I’ve been slacking when it comes to sharing the things that I’m currently loving (reading & listening to) and eating (the taco-ness of it all). So without further adieu here’s what I’ve been into lately.
💖 This piece about listening to Taylor Swift in prison is one of my favorite things I’ve read in a really long time.
💖 Over the summer I finally made the transition to wireless earbuds and it’s been a game changer. With my Virgo powers officially re-activated, I’ve spent a lot of time decluttering and deep cleaning while listening to my favorite mystery writers on Audible. The upside: my space looks amazing. The downside: it makes me weird to be around and prone to shouting, “SORRY I CAN’T HEAR YOU SOLVING CRIMES.”
💖 When I’m not being anti-social pretending to be a detective I’ve been listening to Victoria Monet. She recently released her sophomore album Jaguar II and it’s been on heavy rotation here. Over the past few years, Monet has become one of my favorite R&B songstresses and this album is no exception. It’s dreamy, lush, and sexy — making it perfect for late summer/early fall (Her self-love anthem, “On My Mama” currently has me in a chokehold).
🌮 If you’re looking for a new spot to try locally, check out Benjamin’s Cafe, a new-ish Filipino restaurant in Esquimalt. One of my favorite mystery series is set in a Filipino restaurant (!) so it’s been nice to finally try some of the dishes described in the books. Last time I had the Beef Tapsilog, Custard brazo de Mercedes, and Halo Halo, but next time I’m trying their Purple Yam Ube Pancakes.
💖 I love this reminder from
that you are stronger than your fear of rejection. “If you’re not getting rejected, you’re probably not taking big enough risks - or maybe you’re not taking any risks at all.”💖 Miranda Hobbes always read to me like a queer character (a case of like recognizing like?) so I really enjoyed this piece by
about one of the many, many things that is wrong with the SATC reboot And Just Like That.💖 Re-wearing the silver cowboy boots that I bought for Beyonce because I’m tired of saving my fun clothes for…never. I wore them to a drag-show-belated-birthday-party-for-myself and I have zero regrets. I paired them with a silky black slipdress + a vintage Dolce and Gabbana blazer & felt like a million bucks. Reminder: stop worrying whether you’ll be perceived as “too much.” Life is short: wear the clothes you love!
What’s on your love list this week?
Love, Peace, and Tacos,
Simone
