Welcome to another edition of Love, Peace, and Tacos, a weekly newsletter where I share what Iโm feeling, loving, and eating. My podcast, Weโre Never Doing This Again will be returning this month with brand new episodes. Stay tuned!
Hello friends,
Happy first week of Libra season! As you know, the name of this newsletter is Love, Peace, and Tacos. The other day I realized Iโve been slacking when it comes to sharing the things that Iโm currently loving (reading & listening to) and eating (the taco-ness of it all). So without further adieu hereโs what Iโve been into lately.
๐ This piece about listening to Taylor Swift in prison is one of my favorite things Iโve read in a really long time.
๐ Over the summer I finally made the transition to wireless earbuds and itโs been a game changer. With my Virgo powers officially re-activated, Iโve spent a lot of time decluttering and deep cleaning while listening to my favorite mystery writers on Audible. The upside: my space looks amazing. The downside: it makes me weird to be around and prone to shouting, โSORRY I CANโT HEAR YOU SOLVING CRIMES.โ
๐ When Iโm not being anti-social pretending to be a detective Iโve been listening to Victoria Monet. She recently released her sophomore album Jaguar II and itโs been on heavy rotation here. Over the past few years, Monet has become one of my favorite R&B songstresses and this album is no exception. Itโs dreamy, lush, and sexy โ making it perfect for late summer/early fall (Her self-love anthem, โOn My Mamaโ currently has me in a chokehold).
๐ฎ If youโre looking for a new spot to try locally, check out Benjaminโs Cafe, a new-ish Filipino restaurant in Esquimalt. One of my favorite mystery series is set in a Filipino restaurant (!) so itโs been nice to finally try some of the dishes described in the books. Last time I had the Beef Tapsilog, Custard brazo de Mercedes, and Halo Halo, but next time Iโm trying their Purple Yam Ube Pancakes.
๐ I love this reminder from
that you are stronger than your fear of rejection. โIf youโre not getting rejected, youโre probably not taking big enough risks - or maybe youโre not taking any risks at all.โ๐ Miranda Hobbes always read to me like a queer character (a case of like recognizing like?) so I really enjoyed this piece by
about one of the many, many things that is wrong with the SATC reboot And Just Like That.๐ Re-wearing the silver cowboy boots that I bought for Beyonce because Iโm tired of saving my fun clothes forโฆnever. I wore them to a drag-show-belated-birthday-party-for-myself and I have zero regrets. I paired them with a silky black slipdress + a vintage Dolce and Gabbana blazer & felt like a million bucks. Reminder: stop worrying whether youโll be perceived as โtoo much.โ Life is short: wear the clothes you love!
Whatโs on your love list this week?
Love, Peace, and Tacos,
Simone
