💖✌️🌮 Love List #2: Renaissance Joy Edition
A round up of what I'm currently loving, reading & eating
Welcome to another edition of Love, Peace, and Tacos, a weekly newsletter where I share what I’m feeling, loving, and eating. In case you missed it, a new episode of my podcast We’re Never Doing This Again is out!
Hi friends,
December is always a weird month for me. I usually oscillate between being in the holiday spirit and (often unsuccessfully) keeping my depression at bay — this year especially, since it’s the first holiday season without my Dad. In times like these, I find it’s helpful to lean into the things that bring me happiness and comfort.
So, without further ado, here are a few things that have me tickled pink.
💖 On Friday, my friend Elizabeth and I went to the opening night of Renaissance: a Film by Beyonce and it was incredible. People were cheering, singing, and dancing along (myself included) and I loved every second of it. I wrote about the anti-depressive quality of Beyonce a few months ago and I felt it once again in the movie theatre. I even teared up in parts, especially when she paid tribute to her Uncle Johnny (and yes, we get to see the dress he made!)
My dad mostly only listened to jazz, but Beyonce was one of the few pop stars he was familiar with. Watching the film, I couldn’t help but think he would have enjoyed the show.
🌴 In a few days I’ll be heading off on a press trip to a “sexy adult-themed topless optional” resort in the Dominican Republic. While I’m sad that my bestie and favorite recurring travel partner Mark won’t be able to make it this time, I plan to eat enough all-you-can-eat nachos for the both of us and hopefully come back with some good stories.
🌮 Later this month, I have reservations with friends at End Dive, a new-ish seafood spot in town that I’ve heard a lot about. I’m usually not into restaurants that serve “small plates” (I have more of a “big plate” appetite if we’re being honest) but I’m curious about this spot, in part because of their amphibian-themed decor. I’m also a bit nervous because one reviewer called it “an art gallery meets a dive bar” which seems like a weird way to describe…a seafood restaurant. Will it live up to the hype or am I walking into hipster hell? Stay tuned!
I’ve been slacking on sharing links, so here are a few other things I’m currently obsessed with.
💖 As a soulful and classic house fan, one of my fun goals is to attend a Soul in the Horn party sometime in the not-so-distant future. In the meantime, I’m loving this playlist. Give it a listen if you need a little boost. Let me know which tracks are your favorite! Some of mine are Calling Out, If I Can’t Get Down, Love is Love, and Both of Us.
💖 The title of this piece, oof! Maybe the midlife crisis isn’t about buying a sportscar but simply realizing that you’re now a grown-up. Head exploding!
💖 I few years ago, I splurged and bought a copy of Madonna’s SEX book and have zero regrets (I’m an adult and I can do what I want!) For people who didn’t live through the 80s and early 90s, it can be hard to explain her significance and what Madonna meant to so many of us, but I love this piece by
that sums it up perfectly.💖 I love everything
writes, including this discussion of the Twin Flames Universe (I recently watched the Netflix documentary for work and still am thinking about it). What are you loving these days?
